Can someone please give me a legitimate reason my US history textbook has only three sentences regarding the ENTIRE space program?
I took AP United States History last year, and I got so frustrated how little my textbook explained the space program. It explained Sputnik and America’s first satellite, and also Apollo 11. It included a pic from Apollo 11 and said that Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were on the mission. But, there was NO Mercury program, Gemini program, first man into space, shuttle program, and ONLY one Apollo flight. I’m guessing that space history isn’t a very important part of US history according to our schools ?
On the AP exam, it did not ask much on space history.
The textbook I had was American Pageant 12th Edition.
My AP US history book:
First sentence: Kennedy wanted to go to space and the moon.
Second sentence: Yuri Gagarin was the first man in space
Third sentence: We landed on the moon in 1969
No missions, no names, just Yuri and a year. In regards to science classes, none of mine, not even in middle school, covered anything.
